Police officer Rezaul said the girl, who was staying with a young man in a room at Hotel Royal Tulip, fell ill in the afternoon and was rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. At that time the doctor declared him dead.
An official of the Royal Tulip said on condition of anonymity that Marfua Khanam (23) and Nasir Uddin (28), both husband and wife, got into the Royal Tulip on Wednesday afternoon. They were allotted room number 5101. They then left their bags and other belongings in the hotel room and landed on the beach. When they came back, they ate lunch and took position in their room. Shortly afterwards, the girl was reported to have respiratory problems and was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. After taking him there, the doctor declared him dead.
Cox’s Bazar District Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Rafiqul Islam said an autopsy had been ordered on the girl’s body. At the same time, Nasir Uddin, who identified himself as her husband, was detained for questioning and taken to the police station. During the preliminary interrogation, they confessed that they were lovers.
