Bengali New Year and Eid reunion has been celebrated in a very festive atmosphere with the organization of Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico.
At the beginning of the ceremony held at the embassy premises in the capital Mexico City on Sunday (May 15), the traditional Mars procession was taken out dressed in the first Baishakh masks, festoons and banners. The procession circled the road in front of the embassy.
Diplomats from various countries, including Mexico, organizers of the Bangladeshi community, and family members of the embassy spontaneously took part in the colorful procession.
In her welcome address, Ambassador Abida Islam highlighted the background of Bengali New Year and Eid-ul-Fitr to the foreign guests.
Referring to the status of the traditional Mars procession as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, he said it was a matter of great pride and honor for the Bengalis.
The Ambassador called upon the expatriate Bangladeshis to make efforts from their respective positions to preserve the local heritage as well as the culture of Bangladesh in foreign lands.
In the second part of the program, the ambassador and members of the embassy family and expatriate Bangladeshi artists took part in a pleasant cultural program. The program became a piece of Bangladesh in the heart of exile with various arrangements including songs, dances and poems.
This joyous occasion of Bengali New Year and Eid reunion ended with the serving of Bangladeshi traditional food.
