Sadar Police recovered the body of the freedom fighter from the toilet of J Bogir of Drutayan Express at Panchagarh Bir Muktijoddha Sirajul Islam Railway Station on Tuesday (May 18).
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz Sheikh, son of late Amir Uddin Sheikh of Lakshandia village under Shailkupa police station in Jhenaidah district.
According to police and the victim’s family, Abdul Aziz Sheikh left Dhaka for Phulbari in Dinajpur on the Drutayan Express at 8pm on Monday (May 18). He went to Phulbari mainly for work related to freedom fighter’s allowance.
Meanwhile, when the train reached Panchagarh railway station on Tuesday (May 18) morning, the railway police found the body of the freedom fighter in the bogie toilet of the train and immediately informed the Sadar police. Later in the afternoon, police recovered the body from the spot with the help of BGB and sent it to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to the railway police, the freedom fighter died of a heart attack.
Abdul Aziz’s son Rashed Sheikh Mithu said on his mobile phone that his father used to work at Phulbari in Dinajpur. He used to collect retirement allowance from there. For this he had to go to Phulbari from Shailkupa in Jhenaidah. He was going there by train yesterday. But did not get a chance to land at the destination.
Dinajpur Railway Police Station OC Ershadul Haque Bhuiyan said, “We have identified the deceased Abdul Aziz by looking at his voter ID card.” He is thought to have died of a stroke.
Meanwhile, Panchagarh Sadar Police Station OC Abdul Latif Mia confirmed the rescue of the dead from the train, saying the bodies were recovered and sent to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
