The passenger, identified as Omar Farooq, was detained at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 5pm on Thursday (May 20).
It is learned that while crossing the Green Channel of the airport, Omar Farooq’s luggage was scanned and he was taken to the archway. During the scanning, gold was found inside his luggage. Later, the luggage of his baggage counter was opened and 7 gold bars and 2 gold bars and 98 grams of gold ornaments were recovered from the pocket of his pants. Approximate weight of the recovered gold is 1.256 kg. Its market value is about 93 lakh rupees.
According to the airport authorities, appropriate action has been taken in the customs law regarding gold and passengers, including criminal cases.
