The technical team of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has recommended to increase the price of electricity by 56.73 percent.

The recommendation was made at a public hearing at the Biam Foundation auditorium in the capital on Wednesday.

The Power Development Board (BUBO) had proposed an increase of 75.56 per cent. In contrast, the technical team recommended an increase of 56.63 percent.

Beauvoir proposes to increase the wholesale rate by Tk 3.39 per unit. On the other hand, the technical team recommended an increase of Tk 2.99 against the proposal.

At present, the power development board is selling at a wholesale rate of Tk 5 17 paise per unit. The government is giving a subsidy of 3 taka 39 paise. But Bubo proposed to increase the subsidy to Tk 6 57 paise per unit. On the other hand, BERC has recommended to increase the price to Tk 6 17 paise.
