Five diplomats at the Portuguese embassy in Moscow have been expelled.
Earlier, the Portuguese government declared 10 Russian embassy staff unwanted.
The mission’s activities are considered a threat to Portugal’s national security and they are expected to leave Portugal within two weeks.
In response, Moscow expelled five Portuguese diplomats.
Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement after Portugal expelled Russian diplomats that the move would have a “negative impact” on the two countries.
European countries have so far expelled 300 Russian diplomats over Russia’s surprise attack on Ukraine.
Russia, meanwhile, said on Wednesday (May 17th) that it had expelled 65 diplomats from France, Spain and Italy.
